Hank Aaron grew up in a poor neighborhood in Mobile, Alabama. As a boy, he picked cotton to help his family. Some say that work strengthened his hands. Whether that’s true or not, one thing is certain, he learned how to make the most of what he had.

His family could not afford baseball gear. So he made his own. He swung sticks at bottle caps. He built bats and balls out of whatever he could find. Long before the world knew his name, he was preparing for something bigger.

When he finally reached the major leagues, he carried that same focus with him.

During the 1957 World Series, Hank Aaron stepped into the batter’s box against the New York Yankees. Behind him stood Yogi Berra, known for talking to distract hitters.

“Henry, you’re holding that bat wrong. You’re supposed to hold it so you can read the trademark.”

Aaron said nothing.

Again, Berra tried to get in his head. “Henry, you’re supposed to hold the bat so you can read the trademark.”

The next pitch came. Aaron swung and sent the ball over the left field wall.

After circling the bases, he looked at Berra and said, “I didn’t come up here to read.”

He knew exactly why he was there.

That kind of clarity is powerful.

The apostle Paul had it too. In Acts 20:24, he said he did not consider his life of great value to himself. His focus was simple. Finish the race. Complete the task the Lord had given him.

That is how purpose works. It settles your heart. It clears the noise. It keeps you from being pulled in every direction.

When you know why God made you, things begin to line up.

Purpose brings a deep sense of fulfillment. Without it, life can feel empty no matter how much you achieve.

Purpose gives direction. It answers the question of where your life is headed and keeps you moving toward the right destination.

Purpose creates stability. You are no longer controlled by changing circumstances or emotions. You are anchored.

Purpose reminds you that your life matters. You are not here by accident. There is something only you can do.

And purpose connects you to God’s provision. Where He leads, He provides. You see it all through Scripture. Noah had what he needed to build. David had what he needed to face Goliath. Moses had what he needed to lead. Daniel had what he needed to stand firm.

God does not call you and then leave you on your own.

If you feel stuck, unsure, or stretched thin, it may not be a lack of effort. It may be a lack of clarity.

You were not created to drift. You were created on purpose, for a purpose.

Know why you are here. And once you do, step into it with confidence.
