I read something recently that has stuck with me.

In The Christian Atheist, Craig Groeschel describes a tension many of us feel but don’t always name: believing in God… yet living like we don’t actually need Him. We say we trust Him, but we still carry unforgiveness. We chase happiness on our own terms. We worry constantly. We quietly question His goodness. And if we’re honest? Sometimes we trust our paycheck more than His promises.

That hit me.

Because if I’m being real, the root of all of that in my life often comes down to one thing:
self-sufficiency.

We believe in God—but rely on ourselves.

Maybe you know that feeling too. Wanting to trust Him, but defaulting to “I’ve got this.” Trying harder. Pushing through. Holding it all together.

Last week, while sitting with that tension, I scribbled something in my journal that I can’t stop thinking about:

Self-sufficiency is the enemy of grace.

Because if I can do everything on my own… why would I need God?

And maybe that’s exactly the point.

What if our weaknesses aren’t problems to hide—but invitations?
What if our limitations are the very places God wants to meet us?

Grace doesn’t show up where we have it all together.
It shines in the cracks.
In the moments we whisper, “I can’t do this.”

Because that’s when He gently responds, “I can.”

God’s power isn’t most visible in the strong, the polished, the put-together.
It’s revealed in the weary. The unsure. The ones who’ve run out of their own strength.

When we finally stop trying to prove we’re enough…
we make room to experience that He is.

Scripture reminds us that God intentionally works through the weak, the overlooked, the ordinary—so that no one can boast, and only He gets the glory (1 Corinthians 1:27–29). He has always used imperfect people. People like you. People like me.

Which means this:

One of the most powerful things you can do today is not try harder—but surrender deeper.

Thank Him for the things you can’t do.
Invite Him into the places where you feel inadequate.
Let Him meet you there.

Because grace doesn’t just comfort—it empowers.
It sustains. It equips. It leads.

And somehow, in the upside-down beauty of God’s kingdom,
when you are weak… that’s when you are strong (2 Corinthians 12:10).

So today, instead of striving to hold it all together, what if you simply said:

“Jesus, I need You here.”

Not just in the big things—but in the small, hidden, ordinary struggles too.

Because apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).
But with Him?

Everything changes.

So will you join me?

Let’s invite Christ into our inadequacies today.
Let’s thank Him—not in spite of our weakness, but because of it.

Because through His grace and power,
we can do all things (Philippians 4:13).
