In today’s society, it’s easy to be distracted from focusing on what’s most important. Just on my phone I can text and email and access iMessage, Instagram, FaceBook, Pinterest, YouTube, Google Plus, Tumbler, Halo, MySpace–and even Siri.
After you read today’s devotional…I encourage you to commit to memory this statement:
The things we get distracted by are never as important as the things we get distracted from.
No doubt, we live at a fast pace. In Luke 10:38-42 (NKJV), Jesus gives us insight on how to deal with what I call ” the many things syndrome” and focus on the most important thing. . . a relationship with Him.
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Jesus is saying, “Martha, you are caught up in many things syndrome, but I want to teach you a one-thing lifestyle.” The most important activity you and I can do every day is spend time cultivating an intimate relationship with Christ.
