“When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.” — Exodus 2:2 (NIV)

We’ve all heard the advice: “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” It’s a call to self-protection—a reminder to spread risk and guard against loss. But faith often calls us to do the exact opposite.

Jochebed, the mother of Moses, lived in a time of fear and oppression. Pharaoh had ordered the death of every Hebrew baby boy. For three months, she hid her son, shielding him with everything she had. But there came a moment when hiding was no longer enough. She had reached the edge of her ability—and the beginning of her faith.

With trembling hands and a courageous heart, Jochebed did something extraordinary. She placed her baby in a basket and set him afloat on the Nile River—the very place of danger. There were no guarantees, no visible safety nets, no assurances of how the story would end. Only trust.

Jochebed’s decision wasn’t reckless—it was surrendered. She understood something profound: keeping Moses did not ensure his safety, and releasing him did not ensure his loss. The outcome was never truly in her hands.

And isn’t that where we often find ourselves?

We hold tightly to what we love—our families, dreams, health, finances, and future—believing that our grip somehow secures them. Yet deep down, we know how fragile control really is. Life reminds us again and again that we were never meant to carry that weight.

God gently invites us into a different way of living.

Imagine placing everything you cherish into a basket—your children, your calling, your unanswered prayers, your fears of “what if.” Now imagine setting that basket into God’s care. Not because you’re giving up, but because you’re trusting Him to hold what you cannot.

That’s not loss. That’s freedom.

Jochebed released Moses, but she did not lose him. In a beautiful turn only God could orchestrate, she was given the privilege of nurturing him in his early years. What she surrendered, God returned—multiplied with purpose.

This is the paradox of faith: what we place in God’s hands is never wasted. He uses our surrender to deepen our trust and accomplish His greater plan.

So today, consider this question:

What’s in your basket?

Is there something you’re holding onto out of fear? Something you’ve been trying to protect, control, or secure on your own?

God is not asking you to stop caring—He’s asking you to trust Him more than you trust your own ability to hold it all together.

Because the safest place for everything you love…. is in His hands.
