My heart felt heavy this week as I sat across from a friend who shared what felt like an impossible situation. Her job had become unbearable. She had tried to find something new, but every door stayed closed. She felt stuck. There was no clear way out.

She’s not alone in that feeling. Life has a way of bringing us to places where we run out of options. Places where the only honest prayer left is, “God, I don’t know what to do.”

As she talked, part of me wanted to say, “Just quit.” But I held that back. Instead, I shared something that came to mind. God often brings His people to moments like this. Moments that feel like dead ends. The Red Sea in front of them. The Jordan River in their path. Sometimes He makes a way without them lifting a finger. Other times He asks them to step forward first.

I encouraged her to take whatever step of faith she could see. Even if it felt small. Trusting God to meet her there.

Later, I thought about that conversation. I wondered if my words sounded too simple for something that felt so heavy. Because when you are in it, nothing feels simple. When pressure builds and fear creeps in, it can feel like everything is closing in at once.

That’s what led me back to Exodus.

The Israelites had just escaped Egypt, but freedom didn’t feel freeing. Pharaoh’s army was behind them. The Red Sea was in front of them. They panicked. They cried out, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us here to die?”

That kind of fear feels familiar. It sounds like the voice we hear when hope starts slipping.

Then God responded in a way that is easy to miss. He said, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.”

Move on.

Not after the sea parts. Not after everything makes sense. Right there, in the middle of fear and uncertainty.

They still had to take a step.

Being stuck can feel like the end, but sometimes it is the place where God is setting the stage. A place where He invites us to trust Him in a deeper way. Not just with what we can see, but with what we cannot.

It might look like quieting the panic. It might mean taking one small step forward when you don’t have the full picture. It might be choosing trust when everything in you wants to stay where it feels safe.

We often look for the water to part first. God often asks us to move first.

If you feel stuck right now, you are not alone. And you are not without a way forward. What feels like a dead end may be the very place where God shows up in a way you have never seen before.

The Israelites never imagined the sea would open.

There may be something ahead for you that you have not even thought to hope for yet.
