Have you ever noticed that during busy seasons of life, you often get more done than when life runs at a calmer pace? I encountered this in college during a semester that I took 20 credit hours instead of the customary 12. At the end of the semester, I was amazed that my grades were actually better than previous semesters where I had less overall coursework.

In the past few years I’ve also noticed I’ve been more productive in this busy season of life than I was in previous seasons when I had more free time. With each passing year, I have more commitments to balance but find that busy seasons allow me to accomplish far more than I would initially expect.

The next time you find yourself in a busy season, remember these benefits:

Busyness reveals your priorities

When life gets busy, you are forced to choose. You no longer have the luxury of entertaining multiple options and this clarity is actually freeing.

Busyness builds organization

When you’re running fast, the price for disorganization is much higher. The intentionality that is required to juggle multiple priorities builds organizational skills that are difficult to develop otherwise.

Busyness produces results

If your activity is not producing results, it should cause you to pause and take time to refocus. Activity is not the same as productivity. When you are focused and organized, results are noticeable.

Balancing busyness and rest can be a challenge and it’s easy to become overwhelmed by a constant flurry of activity. Whenever busyness comes your way, don’t run from it. Let these benefits encourage you to press in and reap the rewards of a job well done. There is no telling how God may use you in the midst of busyness.

Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. (Ephesians 4:28)
