Joseph shared a dream with his brothers. In it, they would one day bow down to him. It did not go over well. They were angry. They threw him into a pit, then sold him into slavery.

If we are honest, we might have told Joseph to keep that dream to himself.

What Joseph could not see was how long the road would be between the dream and the day it came true. There would be betrayal, false accusations, prison, and years of waiting. Nothing about it looked like progress. Nothing about it felt like promise.

Yet God was at work in every part of it.

Joseph’s life reminds us that God is not just focused on where we end up. He is working through how we get there. Every step mattered. Every delay had a purpose. Even the painful parts were being woven into something bigger than Joseph could understand at the time.

God used that journey to position Joseph in Egypt. A famine came. His family needed food. The same brothers who had hurt him stood before him, not knowing who he was. In that moment, Joseph saw what God had been doing all along.

He told them, “Do not be distressed… it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.”

Joseph learned to see his story through God’s hands, not just human actions. What others meant for harm, God used for good. That kind of perspective changes a person. It softens the heart. It makes forgiveness possible.

Joseph did not ignore what happened to him. He chose to trust that God was greater than what happened to him.

That is not easy. It never is. Especially when you are in the middle of your own “pit” season. When life feels unfair. When nothing seems to make sense.

But Joseph’s story reminds us of something steady and true. You cannot always tell what God is doing by looking at your current situation. There is more going on than you can see.

God is not wasting your story. Not the good parts. Not the hard parts.

If Joseph were sitting across from you today, he might tell you that he would not trade his journey, even with all the pain. Because through it, he came to know God in a deeper way. He saw God’s faithfulness up close.

And that same God is at work in your life.

Right now.

In ways you may not understand yet.

The question is not whether God is working. The question is whether you trust Him while He is
